Tumble Dryer Regulations

As of July 1, 2025, all of our Schönhaus tumble dryers feature an additional energy label in the box, as introduced by the European Commission. The new labels reflect the improvements made to energy standards in the manufacturing of domestic goods, aiding understanding to help you make the best decision for your home and energy usage. The new label regulations only apply to Northern Ireland and countries within the EU, and the ratings will differ from those on the standard UK label. We want to assure you that, although the ratings are different, the energy efficiency of the products remains the same. It is simply shown on a different scale.

What is new?

The energy efficiency ratings have been rescaled, removing the current “Plus” classes (A+++, A++, and A+), instead moving to an A to G system. Under the new system, A is assigned to models with the highest energy efficiency, while G is assigned to older or less efficient models. Therefore, dryers previously rated A+++ will be class A, while a formerly C-rated appliance will be class F or possibly even G.

The graphics on the label continue to follow the existing style, ranging from dark green for the most efficient models to red for the least efficient.

The new labels also provide more comprehensive details and information, such as energy consumption per 100 cycles rather than a weighted annual energy consumption, average programme duration, and noise levels. There are also details about the condensation efficiency, which explains how effectively the dryer extracts moisture from the fabrics being dried and collects it, rather than releasing it into the surrounding room.

The new labels include a QR code which, when scanned, takes you to more detailed product information that comes straight from an EU online database. This can then be downloaded and saved for future reference.

Why have these changes come about?

These new labels have been designed to help consumers understand the energy impact of new tumble dryers and to provide clearer information. They better reflect technological advances in recent years and incentivise further innovation within the industry. As a result, people are able to make more informed and sustainable purchasing decisions.
